Brasilia’s clear skies provided the perfect backdrop for Thiago Bernarde de Souza’s latest photographic adventure. The Brazilian photographer, known for capturing the joyful exploits of his canine companions, set out on his motorbike with his rescue dogs in tow, eager to immortalize their wind-swept escapades.

De Souza’s motley crew of furry friends – Filo, Teo, and Juju – have become inseparable companions on his two-wheeled excursions around the capital city. “The first member of our pack, Filo, isn’t in the photo, but she was there that day,” de Souza explains. “Filo started riding with me in a backpack years ago, then around the time she turned one, I rescued Teo. He’s the dog in the goggles, a mixed breed and the most energetic and mischievous. Teo jumped into my sidecar when he was a puppy, and when I rescued Juju, at the front, a couple of years later, she settled into the remaining place immediately. She’s the sweetest and most loving dog.”

To capture the perfect shot, de Souza carefully positioned his phone on a tripod and executed a delicate manoeuvre, tilting the bike while riding to lift the sidecar into the air, allowing the dogs’ joyful expressions and wind-swept fur to be immortalized. “I always knew they loved the experience and the wind on their faces, but seeing them like this is priceless,” he adds. “When I saw what I’d captured, I felt immense joy.”

The resulting image, a testament to the unbreakable bond between man and his best friends, has already garnered widespread attention, with de Souza drawing comparisons to the pioneering work of Eadweard Muybridge, the 19th-century photographer renowned for his groundbreaking motion studies.

As de Souza continues to explore the streets of Brasilia with his canine companions, his unique photographic style has become a celebration of the pure, unadulterated joy that can be found in the simple act of sharing an adventure with our four-legged friends.
