Defence attorney Leora Shemesh is seeking directed not-guilty verdicts on the remaining five charges, following indications from Ontario Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy that Stronach may be acquitted on the attempted rape charge and those associated with the sixth complainant.
Stronach, who is 93 years old and has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, initially pleaded not guilty to all twelve charges, which date back as far as the 1970s. Today, the defence is expected to call their first witness, a man who has historical ties to the waterfront building where Stronach owned a condominium several decades ago.
