A shocking incident in the early hours of Sunday morning has left a woman in her 40s dead in Thorpe St Andrew, near Norwich. Norfolk Police were called to Catherine Gardens at around 11:45 pm on Saturday, where the woman was found injured and later declared dead at the scene.
According to reports, armed officers carried out the arrest of a man in his 60s on Dereham Road on Sunday morning. The suspect remains in police custody, and it is believed that the man and the woman knew each other.
Detective Superintendent Stacey Murray of Norfolk Police stated that the investigation is still in its early stages, as they work to establish the sequence of events that led to the woman’s death. However, she confirmed that this appears to be an incident where both parties were known to each other.
The police have cordoned off several areas, including Yarmouth Road from the Pound Lane junction and a section of Dereham Road near the junction with Bowthorpe Road. Forensic officers have also been seen entering a semi-detached house within the 35-metre cordon on Dereham Road.
A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, described witnessing the arrest, stating that she saw “flashing lights” and a large number of police officers in full gear, some with guns, who instructed the suspect to “get on the ground.” The neighbour said the arrest was carried out without too much struggle and took around an hour.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, and Norfolk Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
