At 104 years old, Elizabeth Milner attributes her long and healthy life to a simple secret: a diet rich in vegetables and chocolate. The Care UK resident at Kentford Manor in Newmarket, Suffolk, celebrated her milestone birthday at the end of December, surrounded by friends and family.

Born in 1921 in Dundee, Scotland, Milner lived through the tumultuous years of World War II, during which she was an active member of the Land Army. “Spending the day with my whole family and enjoying a lovely afternoon tea party with plenty of bubbles made it especially memorable,” she said of her recent birthday celebrations.

Reflecting on her life, Milner recalled sneaking out to meet her future husband, Alfred, whom she married in 1944. After the war, she focused on raising her two children and later worked at a local store after moving to Yorkshire.

Now a much-loved resident at Kentford Manor, Milner continues to indulge in her lifelong passions, including baking, knitting, and tapestry-making. “We were so excited to celebrate such a joyous day with Elizabeth,” said home manager Hannah Nurse. “As a much-loved resident at Kentford Manor, it was wonderful to mark this tremendous milestone with her and her family.”

Milner’s secret to longevity may seem unconventional, but her unwavering commitment to a diet rich in vegetables and chocolate has clearly paid off. Her story serves as a testament to the power of simple pleasures and the importance of cherishing the moments that make life truly meaningful.
