In a concerning development, two popular hair growth treatments sold on Amazon have been recalled due to a serious safety issue. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that both the Ruahouine Hair Growth Serum and the RootStim Beard Growth Serum contain the medication minoxidil, which can be toxic if ingested by small children or pets.
The problem lies in the packaging – the products were not manufactured with the required child-resistant packaging, putting young children at risk of accidental poisoning. Approximately 25,000 bottles of the Ruahouine serum and 16,900 units of the RootStim beard growth product have been recalled as a result.
Minoxidil is a common ingredient used to stimulate hair growth, but it can be dangerous if swallowed. The Poison Prevention Packaging Act mandates that such medications must be sold in child-resistant containers, but this crucial safety measure was overlooked during the manufacturing process for these two products, which were produced in China.
Consumers who have purchased either the Ruahouine or RootStim products are urged to immediately keep them out of reach of children and pets. Ruahouine customers will need to contact the company, dispose of the bottle, and provide photographic proof to receive a refund or replacement. RootStim buyers can simply discard the item and reach out to the company for a new one.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far from these recalled products. However, the potential risk to young children is clear, and the CPSC has acted swiftly to remove these unsafe items from the market.
This is not the first time RootStim has faced a recall – last month, the company had to replace around 840 bottles of its Feel The Beard Minoxidil Beard Growth Oil for Men due to similar packaging concerns. It seems that ensuring the proper safety measures are in place continues to be an ongoing challenge for some hair growth supplement manufacturers.
As consumers, it’s crucial to remain vigilant and prioritise safety when purchasing any products, especially those containing potentially hazardous ingredients. The responsibility lies with companies to ensure their offerings meet the necessary standards and protect the wellbeing of their customers, particularly the most vulnerable. This recall serves as a stark reminder of the importance of thorough quality control and consumer protection in the personal care industry.
