The tragic death of David Clark, a 35-year-old Australian national living in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, has left his wife Celene and their seven-month-old daughter in profound grief. Clark was killed after being struck by a Metropolitan Police vehicle while cycling through central London on Wednesday.
In a heartbreaking tribute, Celene described her husband as “a loving husband, a devoted father to our baby daughter, a son, a brother, and a deeply cherished friend.” She emphasised that his death has “left a profound and lasting void in our lives.”
The incident occurred just after 12:30 am, when two police vehicles responding to an emergency call were travelling south on Borough High Street. The driver of the first vehicle was involved in a collision with Clark, who appeared to be crossing the road. The police officers immediately provided first aid, but tragically, Clark was declared dead at the scene.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. They are reviewing CCTV and body-worn video footage to determine the details of the incident.
In a statement, the IOPC said, “The pedestrian has been formally identified as David Clark, aged 35. Mr. Clark was an Australian national who lived in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. A post-mortem has been carried out, and we are awaiting a date for the inquest opening.”
A friend of the Clark family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral costs and support Celene and their young daughter during this deeply difficult period. The family has already received over £15,000 in donations from friends, family, and members of the public.
Celene expressed her gratitude for the “compassion and kindness” shown by those who have reached out, adding that their focus is on “caring for our daughter, supporting one another, and honouring David’s life away from public attention.”
This tragic incident has left a profound impact on the lives of David Clark’s loved ones, and the investigation by the IOPC will aim to provide answers and closure during this deeply challenging time.
