In a shocking turn of events, the Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation after an unidentified woman was found dead in a flat in Bolton. The discovery was made on Monday morning, with officers responding to the scene on Kempton Gardens at around 10:00 GMT.
Despite the efforts of the emergency services, who administered CPR, the woman was pronounced dead shortly after. A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody, undergoing questioning.
Detective Inspector Louise Kelly of the Greater Manchester Police emphasised that the priority at this stage is to identify the victim and inform her family as soon as possible. “A murder investigation has been launched, and while we currently have a man in custody, there is a police cordon in place, and we are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances which have led to this tragic incident,” she said.
The police have assured the public that they believe there is no wider risk to the community, despite the gravity of the situation. “We understand that an incident of this nature may cause concern within the community, however, we believe there is no wider risk to the public,” DI Kelly added.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to come forward and assist with the enquiries.
