The family of Jordan Gray, a 26-year-old man who was tragically shot dead in his Motherwell flat, have been left devastated by his untimely passing. Gray’s body was discovered on 15 December last year, but police believe he was killed the previous day.

In a heartbreaking statement, Gray’s family expressed their grief, saying his infant child will grow up never knowing how much their father loved them. Gray’s mother, Lynn Gray, and stepfather, Michael Groome, described him as a “well-liked young man” whose life was senselessly taken.

“The outpouring of love we have had since Jordan’s death is testament to the fact that he was a well-liked young man and, yet, someone stole him from us,” Groome said during a press conference. “We are devastated by our loss. His sisters and wee brother are struggling to understand how someone could do this to their big brother.”

A post-mortem examination revealed that Gray suffered fatal injuries “consistent with being shot by a firearm.” He was due to celebrate his 27th birthday on 27 December.

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry, the senior investigating officer, said police have trawled through more than 1,200 hours of security footage as part of the investigation. They are particularly keen to speak to a man seen in the area on the night of the killing, who was described as wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers.

“Jordan suffered fatal firearm wounds within his home. Since then, we’ve had a dedicated team of officers from the Major Investigation Team, as well as uniformed colleagues, working on this investigation,” Hendry said. “This is a really shocking crime, the murder of a young man in his own home. It’s vital we trace the person responsible and get answers for Jordan’s family.”

Police have urged anyone with information about Gray’s death to come forward and assist with their inquiries. His family expressed hope that the person responsible will be brought to justice, though they acknowledged that their beloved Jordan’s child will have to grow up without knowing the depth of their father’s love.
