A new global study by leading employee recognition provider Workhuman has revealed that when workers are regularly recognised for their contributions to company goals, they become significantly more invested in organisational initiatives. The research, which surveyed employees across multiple countries, found that individuals who receive frequent, meaningful recognition are five times more likely to feel personally engaged with their employer’s strategic priorities.
The Workhuman Global Research Study: Recognition as an Engine for Strategy highlights the powerful impact of effective recognition programmes. According to the findings, workers who are recognised for helping to drive key objectives have a clearer understanding of their company’s values and goals. They also experience greater psychological safety, feeling more aligned and committed to the organisation’s success.
“This data underscores the vital role that recognition plays in fostering employee engagement and strategic alignment,” said Dr. Meisha-ann Martin, Director of People Analytics at Workhuman. “When workers feel their contributions are valued and rewarded, it cultivates a strong sense of belonging and investment in the company’s mission.”
The study surveyed over 3,000 employees across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland. It revealed that 82% of recognised workers feel a strong connection to their organisation’s purpose, compared to just 16% of those who are rarely or never acknowledged. Similarly, 78% of frequently recognised employees understand their company’s core values, versus only 18% of unrecognised staff.
Furthermore, the research found that recognition significantly boosts psychological safety, with 74% of frequently recognised individuals reporting they feel comfortable voicing ideas and concerns, versus just 17% of those who receive little to no recognition.
“These findings underscore the business-critical nature of effective recognition programmes,” added Dr. Martin. “In today’s dynamic work environment, fostering employee engagement and strategic alignment is key to driving innovation, productivity, and long-term success. Organisations that prioritise recognition are better positioned to achieve their goals and build a thriving, purpose-driven culture.”
The Workhuman Global Research Study surveyed 3,174 full-time employees across the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland. The research was conducted in partnership with Gallup.
