In a surprising twist, a top defence expert has exposed a major flaw in Donald Trump’s justification for attempting to seize control of Greenland. The former US President’s push to acquire the Danish territory directly contradicts his own administration’s stance on climate change.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the US “needs” Greenland to prevent Russia and China from gaining a foothold in the region as melting ice sheets open up new sea routes. However, the very climate change science that the Trump White House has consistently rejected forms the basis for this argument.

Speaking to The Update Desk, the defence expert, who wished to remain anonymous, stated: “Trump’s plan to take over Greenland goes against everything he and his administration have believed in regarding climate change. He can’t have it both ways – either he accepts the scientific evidence of global warming, or his justification for the Greenland acquisition falls flat.”

The expert went on to highlight the contradiction between Trump’s stance on climate change and his rationale for pursuing Greenland. “If the President truly believes that climate change is a hoax, as he has repeatedly claimed, then the melting ice sheets and potential for increased maritime activity in the region should not be a concern. But he’s using that very phenomenon to argue for the need to control Greenland. It’s a glaring inconsistency.”

Trump’s latest tirade against NATO allies, including a public spat with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the Chagos Islands deal, has further escalated tensions. The former President showed no signs of backing down, telling reporters that the US would “have to have” Greenland.

However, the defence expert’s revelation casts doubt on the validity of Trump’s justifications, potentially undermining his push to seize control of the strategically important territory. As the international community continues to grapple with the realities of climate change, the former President’s contradictory positions on the issue have been brought to the forefront, raising questions about the credibility of his proposed Greenland acquisition.
