The press secretary unequivocally stated that Starmer does have confidence in McSweeney and is not contemplating stepping down as prime minister.
The press secretary emphasised Starmer’s commitment to a “decade of national renewal” to turn the country around after 14 years of Conservative rule. She also highlighted Starmer’s appreciation for the views of Labour MPs, describing them as “fantastic champions of the work that the government is doing to deliver for the British people” and “fantastic representatives of their communities.”
When asked about potential consequences for the recent unauthorized briefings against Cabinet minister Wes Streeting, the press secretary reiterated the Prime Minister’s previous stance, stating that any such breaches would be dealt with.
