Cyr, who has traversed the globe from South Korea to Europe and Central America, settled in Arizona where he discovered this unique specimen. “I was out for a trail run during the school holidays,” he recalls, “and the route was serene, with just a few riders on horseback and this magnificent saguaro.”
The saguaro cactus, native to the Sonoran Desert, is the largest of its kind in the United States. They can reach the height of a six-storey building and often live for over 200 years. Cyr notes that these giants typically don’t begin to grow their first arms until they reach the age of 70—a testament to their remarkable longevity and resilience.
