Ontario Court to Address Kenneth Law’s Charges in May Resolution Hearing

The Ontario Superior Court is set to conduct a resolution hearing next month regarding Kenneth Law, who stands accused of supplying a lethal substance online to individuals seeking to end their lives. Justice Michelle Fuerst announced on Monday that the hearing will take place on May 29, where Law is expected to formally plead guilty to aiding suicide, while murder charges against him will be dropped.

Court Hearing Scheduled for May

During the upcoming resolution hearing, Kenneth Law, a 60-year-old former chef, will be in attendance alongside legal counsel. This hearing follows a plea agreement disclosed by his attorneys last week, which suggests a significant shift in the legal proceedings surrounding Law’s case.

Justice Fuerst remarked, “That date is an appearance date, in person, for all counsel along with Mr. Law and myself,” indicating the importance of the upcoming session. Law has remained in custody since his arrest in May 2023, which took place at his home in Mississauga. He did not participate in Monday’s virtual hearing, but a pretrial discussion among attorneys is scheduled for May 13 ahead of the main hearing.

Allegations and Investigation Background

Law’s arrest was precipitated by allegations that he had shipped over 1,200 packages containing a toxic substance to customers in 41 countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom. Reports suggest he targeted individuals through online suicide forums, contributing to numerous deaths globally.
