Ofcom holds significant regulatory power, including the ability to impose fines of up to £18 million or 10% of a company’s global revenue for breaches of the law. Meanwhile, in Canada, Identity Minister Marc Miller is currently consulting on an online safety act, drawing inspiration from the UK’s legal framework. A prior iteration of Canada’s online harms bill aimed to compel platforms to promptly remove CSAM and other harmful content, alongside establishing a regulatory body similar to that of the UK.
