Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is set to recall more than 170,000 vehicles across the United States due to alarming reports of potential power loss while driving. The announcement, made by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects several popular models, including the Range Rover, Discovery, Range Rover Sport, and Defender. Scope of the Recall
The recall will encompass a total of 170,169 vehicles, all identified as being at risk due to a faulty DC-DC converter. This component is critical, as it charges the vehicle’s 12-volt system; failure in this area can result in a total loss of drive power and the failure of exterior lighting systems. The NHTSA has confirmed that a solution is currently in development, but for the time being, affected owners will need to remain vigilant.
Electric Vehicle Safety Worries
This recall follows a separate issue that has raised eyebrows among Jaguar I-PACE owners in Britain. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that many drivers were feeling apprehensive about using their electric vehicles after receiving warnings about a potential fire hazard. JLR notified customers that certain I-PACE models had experienced battery thermal overload, which could potentially lead to smoke or fire.
According to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), an estimated 26,000 vehicles in the UK—up to the 2021 model year—could be impacted. However, JLR has revised that figure, suggesting that around 16,300 vehicles are actually at risk. The company has issued urgent advice to I-PACE owners to park their vehicles away from buildings and charge them outside until an interim repair is implemented, which will limit the maximum charge to 90 per cent.
