The court learned that on April 5, 2024, Bettamio arrived in London and booked a room through the Airbnb platform at Thiamphanit’s property located in Stanhope Place, close to Marble Arch.
The evening of April 5 saw Thiamphanit socialising with friends, partaking in board games, before leaving her flat in the early hours of April 6. She was last seen alive around 4:24 AM when an Uber dropped her off at her residence. Unfortunately, it would be the final time she was seen by anyone.
Discovery of the Body
As time passed, Thiamphanit’s friends grew increasingly concerned when they were unable to reach her. Their worries led them to contact the authorities, who made a grim discovery on April 8. Inside her flat, investigators found her body, which bore multiple stab wounds. A large knife was reportedly embedded in her neck, suggesting a violent struggle. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as multiple sharp force injuries.
Fugitive Flight to Dubai
Less than 24 hours after allegedly committing the heinous act, Bettamio reportedly hailed a cab from Bayswater Road to the airport, where he purchased a ticket to Dubai. His swift departure raised alarms among Thiamphanit’s friends, marking the beginning of a complex international investigation. Following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates on April 24, 2026, he was swiftly arrested upon arrival in the UK and taken to Charing Cross police station, where he was charged with murder.
During the court proceedings, Bettamio, who has no fixed address, spoke only to confirm his identity. Judge Simon Mayo KC has scheduled a plea hearing for July 14, with a provisional trial date set for February 1 of next year. Bettamio remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue.
