In a devastating turn of events, the family of 19-year-old Tom Dingle has been left grief-stricken following the discovery of his body in woodland on Christmas Day. The Lancaster University student, described as an “incredibly intelligent and caring young man,” had gone missing on 13th December, with his last known location being Stonemill Rise around 00:30 GMT.
Twelve days later, Tom’s body was found off Lees Lane in Dalton, West Lancashire. While his death is not being treated as suspicious, the loss has left an irreparable hole in the hearts of his loved ones.
In a touching tribute, Tom’s family and friends have launched a fundraiser in his memory, with the proceeds going to the Royal British Legion – an organization that was close to Tom’s heart, as his ultimate ambition was to join the Army, specifically the Parachute Regiment, after completing his philosophy degree.
“Tom’s death has left a hole in our hearts which will never be filled. Christmas, and life as a whole, will never be the same without our Tom,” the family said in a heartfelt statement. “To honour Tom’s memory, we as a family and Tom’s friends wish to raise money for the Royal British Legion. This is a charity very close to us, and we know it is what Tom would have wanted.”
The family expressed their gratitude to the police, rescue volunteers, and the wider community for their “incredible help and support” during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues, the Dingle family’s focus remains on celebrating Tom’s life and the legacy he left behind. His dream of serving in the Army may have been cut short, but his memory will live on through the efforts of those who loved him dearly.
