In a lavish display of luxury, the renowned watchmaker Jacob & Co has unveiled a one-of-a-kind timepiece that pays tribute to the private wildlife sanctuary owned by India’s wealthiest man, Mukesh Ambani. The bespoke watch, estimated to be worth a staggering £1.1 million (or 137 million rupees), features intricate sculptural elements that celebrate the Vantara wildlife reserve.
At the centre of the dial sits a hand-painted figurine of Anant Ambani, Mukesh’s youngest son, seated on a chair. Surrounding the figurine are sculpted depictions of a lion and a Bengal tiger, symbolising the diverse array of species that call Vantara home. The watchmaker has described the piece as a “tribute” to the private zoo, which is home to over 2,000 animals, including lions, elephants, and tigers, spread across a sprawling 3,500-acre estate.
Vantara, located in the western state of Gujarat, has made headlines in the past due to allegations of unlawful animal acquisition and mistreatment. However, a Supreme Court-appointed team later found no evidence of wrongdoing. The private sanctuary was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March last year and has also played host to Anant Ambani’s lavish pre-wedding festivities in 2024, which drew a star-studded guest list, including Bollywood celebrities, global icons like Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, as well as business leaders such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.
In their social media announcement, Jacob & Co stated that the watch’s design “symbolised stewardship and responsibility,” with the Anant Ambani figurine at the centre representing these core values. The timepiece is said to be adorned with 397 precious stones, including diamonds, green sapphires, garnets, and other gemstones.
While the watchmaker has not disclosed the price of the exclusive timepiece, industry experts estimate its value to be around £1.1 million. The watch is not yet available in stores, according to an executive associated with the brand’s Indian retail partner, Ethos Watches.
This latest creation by Jacob & Co serves as a testament to the extravagance and opulence that surrounds the Ambani family’s private wildlife sanctuary, Vantara, and the family’s enduring influence in the Indian business and social landscape.
