The Hardest-Hit Areas
Bhadohi district bore the brunt of the storm, with reports indicating at least 16 fatalities and six injuries. Savitri Devi, a local villager, shared the story of her family’s narrow escape as their mud house succumbed to the violent winds. “We rushed outside when the walls started shaking because of the wind. Our roof collapsed moments later,” she recalled, highlighting the sheer terror experienced by those caught in the storm’s fury.
In Fatehpur, nine lives were lost, including eight individuals in Khaga tehsil, where a wall collapse claimed the life of a woman. The tragedy extended to Budaun, where five fatalities were confirmed, including two young girls, Mausami and Rajni, who died when the mud wall of their shelter fell in. In a series of tragic incidents, a woman named Laxmi lost her life when a tree crashed onto her shelter, while a truck driver succumbed to injuries after a tree struck his vehicle.

In response to the devastation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered district officials to expedite relief efforts within 24 hours and ensure that compensation is provided for the losses incurred. He has also emphasised that negligence in response efforts will not be tolerated, directing agricultural and revenue departments to assess the damage thoroughly.

Uttar Pradesh, with a population exceeding 240 million, is particularly prone to intense pre-monsoon storms.
