A serious collision on the M62 motorway has brought traffic to a standstill, causing significant delays for commuters in West Yorkshire. The incident occurred this afternoon on the westbound carriageway at junction 23 for New Hey Road near Huddersfield.

According to traffic reports, the crash was reported at around 2:14 pm, prompting authorities to temporarily halt all traffic in the affected area. Motorway camera footage shows lengthy queues building up as rush hour approaches.

In an update, the traffic monitoring service Inrix stated: “All traffic is being temporarily held and queuing due to an accident on the M62 westbound at J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).”

The situation has resulted in delays of up to 20 minutes, with average speeds along the affected stretch estimated to be around 25 mph. Highways England has advised that normal conditions are expected to be restored between 5 pm and 5:15 pm.
