In the early hours of March 10, chaos erupted in downtown Toronto as two gunmen emerged from a white Honda CRV and opened fire on the exterior of the U.S. consulate. This brazen attack on an emblem of American diplomacy has not only intensified security measures at embassies but has also raised serious questions regarding the individuals behind the assault.
On Friday, the U.S. Justice Department brought to light a series of allegations against Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, a 32-year-old Iraqi national, claiming he orchestrated the attack and has been linked to a broader wave of violence directed at American and Jewish targets worldwide.
Allegations of Terrorism and International Links
Authorities allege that Al-Saadi, who is currently in U.S. custody, established an online terrorist group with connections to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Court documents indicate that he is implicated in plotting attacks across multiple U.S. states, including New York, California, and Arizona, although these plans have yet to be executed. Prosecutors have charged him with six terrorism-related offences, which encompass conspiracy to provide material support to terrorist entities and conspiracy to murder U.S. nationals, among others.
The investigation has revealed that Al-Saadi was not only planning attacks but also claimed responsibility for several violent incidents in Europe in March and April. This includes
