Plans to redevelop the historic Cambridge Science Park, the oldest science park in Europe, have been unveiled, promising to create up to 20,000 new jobs and enhance public facilities. The proposed redevelopment aims to transform the existing 2.8 million square feet of built space into an expansive 8 million square feet, significantly increasing the park’s economic contribution to £3 billion annually. This initiative, spearheaded by Trinity College Cambridge and its partners, is positioned as a crucial investment in the region’s technological future.

The plans for redevelopment include the addition of new buildings, infrastructure, and improved public spaces, designed with the intent of fostering innovation and accessibility. Dame Sally Davies, Master of Trinity College Cambridge, emphasised the importance of making the Science Park a welcoming environment for young people and families in Cambridge and surrounding areas. “Opening up the new Park of Science to the young people and families of Cambridge and the towns and villages around is essential,” she stated.
Currently, the park is home to over 7,000 professionals engaged in cutting-edge research and development, with notable achievements such as advancements in cancer therapies, Bluetooth technology, and mobile communications. The proposed expansion not only seeks to enhance this legacy but also aims to maximise the use of space for future scientific breakthroughs.

The redevelopment plans include provisions for new green spaces, outdoor exhibitions, and cafes, ensuring that the park remains a vibrant community hub. Rebecca Porter, CEO of the Cambridge Science Centre, expressed enthusiasm for the growth opportunities that the redevelopment presents. “We are incredibly excited by the opportunities that the continued growth of Cambridge Science Park presents. Since Trinity College supported our move to the park, we have transformed our scale, reaching over 30,000 people in 2025 alone from our Cambridge centre to dedicated outreach with nearly 1,400 pupils in Wisbech,” she remarked. The park’s proximity to world-leading research institutions further enhances its appeal as a centre for scientific exploration and education.
