The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarms, stating that the epidemic is advancing faster than the response teams can manage. WHO Calls for Immediate Action
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO’s director-general, revealed the gravity of the situation during an online meeting with the African Union. “We are urgently scaling up operations, but at the moment the epidemic is outpacing us,” he stated, emphasising the need for neighbouring nations to bolster their preparedness. In the heart of the outbreak, Ituri province has seen a troubling surge in violence towards health facilities. Reports from the Mongbwalu general referral hospital indicate that health workers are on high alert after a series of assaults by local residents.
