In a shocking development that has ignited public ire, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has voiced grave concerns regarding police conduct after disturbing bodycam footage surfaced, depicting the harrowing arrest of Henry Nowak. The 18-year-old Southampton university student, who was brutally murdered by Vickrum Digwa, was seen pleading for help while handcuffed, raising serious questions about the police’s response to the tragic incident.

Shocking Footage Sparks Public Outrage

Vickrum Digwa, 23, was sentenced on Monday to a minimum of 21 years for stabbing Nowak with a large knife he claimed was part of his Sikh faith. The footage, which has drawn widespread condemnation, shows Nowak struggling to breathe as he is restrained by officers who initially appeared to prioritise Digwa’s false claims of a racist attack over the well-being of the dying student. As Nowak gasped for air, he repeatedly told the officers, “I can’t breathe,” but his pleas were met with indifference.

The disturbing nature of the video has led to protests in Southampton, where hundreds took to the streets to express their anger. Clashes erupted between demonstrators and riot police, further escalating the tension in the community.
