In a tragic escalation of violence, the town of Beni in North Kivu province has become a battleground, with over 30 lives claimed by brutal militia attacks in recent days. This surge in violence, attributed to the Islamic State-affiliated Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), has not only devastated the local population but is also severely hindering efforts to combat the ongoing Ebola outbreak that has gripped the region.

A Night of Terror

Early on Wednesday morning, the ADF launched a savage assault on the villages of Matété, Mamuli, and Kitoho, resulting in the massacre of at least ten people. Eyewitness accounts paint a grim picture: homes were razed, motorcycles set ablaze, and civilians kidnapped. Isaac Kavalami, a community leader, reported, “We have provisionally recorded around 10 deaths. The situation is dire, and the number of kidnapped individuals remains unknown.”

This violence follows another horrific attack on Saturday night, when ADF militants stormed Beni
