“When the hospital called to inform me I would be donating, I said yes without a second thought,” Antoine shared, reflecting on that pivotal moment. His immediate response even surprised the hospital staff. This act of courage would ultimately play a crucial role in saving his father’s life.
Rick’s daughter, Felicia, expressed her deep emotional connection to this experience, highlighting its significance in their family’s journey. “We were incredibly fortunate that others had donated before us, allowing my dad to have this chance,” she said. Felicia’s desire to help others has manifested in her organisation of two successful blood drives, with plans for a third on August 29 at the Kirkland donation centre, which is celebrating five years of service to the local community. “Giving blood takes just an hour, and donating plasma is a simple gesture that can profoundly impact the lives of the Scalzo family and countless others,” noted Josée Larivée, a spokesperson for Héma-Québec.
