In a horrific incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, two women and a toddler were brutally shot dead in Jackson, Mississippi, on Saturday night. The local police have declared the event a triple homicide, describing it as one of the most appalling acts of violence seen this year.

The Incident

The Jackson Police Department received an emergency call at approximately 10:10 PM, notifying them of an aggravated assault occurring in the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of 25-year-old Keyana Weathersby, her two-year-old daughter Camari Givens, and Keyana’s sister, 30-year-old Erica Weathersby. All three victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and Police Chief RaShall Brackney did not mince words when describing the scene, labelling it “horrible.”

Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard confirmed the identities of the victims, revealing that Keyana had been shot multiple times in the head, while little Camari suffered grievous injuries to her head, face, and arm. Erica Weathersby was also shot extensively. “This is a heinous crime,” Chief Brackney stated emphatically, denouncing the perpetrator as “an absolute coward” for targeting defenseless individuals, including a child.

Community’s Grief

The community is reeling from the loss. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones addressed the public via a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing profound sorrow. “Today, our community is grieving,” he wrote. “An innocent toddler was taken from us in an act of violence that words can barely hold.” He extended his condolences to the grieving family, assuring them that they are not alone in their suffering and that the entire community stands in solidarity with them during this tragic time.

This incident marks a grim milestone for Jackson, as it accounts for the 41st, 42nd, and 43rd homicides of the year, with this triple shooting being the deadliest singular event so far. The police have launched an urgent manhunt to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large and is considered “armed and dangerous.”

The Search for Justice

Authorities have identified the suspected shooter, warning the public to be vigilant. The individual is believed to be driving a red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage with the licence plate HSI 205. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting or the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward. The lack of arrests has heightened tension in Jackson, leaving residents fearful and anxious about the safety of their neighbourhoods.

As investigations continue, the community is left grappling with the unspeakable loss of lives that should have been filled with laughter and love. The police chief’s words resonate deeply: “You killed a toddler as well as the child’s mother and another person in that home.” The callousness of such violence raises questions about safety, justice, and the ongoing
