The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has voiced strong objections to the British government’s last-minute announcement allowing pubs to remain open until 5am for England’s upcoming World Cup clash against Mexico. The match, which kicks off at 1am on Monday, has prompted fears among law enforcement regarding public safety and potential increases in alcohol-related incidents.

Roberts and Green highlighted the contradiction between the government’s recognition of the public’s enthusiasm for the match and the reality of increased risk associated with late-night drinking.
