Jenrick’s Defence
A spokesperson for Jenrick has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, asserting that the donations were permissible and that Jenrick acted within the law. They maintained that Ullmann’s contributions were vetted for compliance with electoral regulations, and that Jenrick had no prior knowledge of any questionable connections regarding the funds.
Furthermore, they emphasised that Jenrick has been cooperative with the Electoral Commission, providing comprehensive documentation to counter the claims.
The Conservative Party’s Position
The Conservative Party has assured that all candidates in the 2024 leadership contest were duly reminded of the legal framework surrounding acceptable donations. A spokesperson for Ullmann has refrained from commenting on the ongoing investigation.
