Fernando Balanta, a visitor to Boston Bar, faced an unexpected ordeal during a trip to the landfill. Together with fellow bystanders, he attempted to extinguish the fire, using unconventional methods such as stomping on the flames and even wielding a frying pan. Despite their efforts and calls for assistance, the fire proved relentless, fuelled by strong winds.
“It just started kind of getting a little scary,” Balanta recalled. “I started seeing how it was developing and realised that this thing was potentially going to be very serious.” His early warnings, captured on video and later shared on his YouTube channel, highlighted the alarming situation as onlookers contemplated how to tackle the blaze.
