Mike Jenkins, a biological sciences technician with the City of Edmonton, has noted that this year’s mosquito activity has reached levels reminiscent of 1990, a year known for its abundant mosquito presence. “I got so many mosquito bites. I actually got one on my tongue back then,” Jenkins recounted, highlighting the unusual quantity of these blood-sucking pests. This current spike is attributed to the region’s unusually wet weather patterns, with persistent rainfall since late June contributing to the mosquito boom.
Jenkins explained, “It’s been years since we’ve seen sustained multiple weeks’ worth of rainfall. There’s water in places I haven’t seen in literally decades.
