A developing tropical depression is set to become a tropical storm along the US Gulf Coast, coinciding with the intensification of Tropical Storm Fausto in the eastern Pacific. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a series of weather alerts as the depression, expected to strengthen later today, poses significant risks to coastal communities.

As of Monday morning, the tropical depression was situated approximately 120 miles south of Panama City, Florida, and 215 miles southeast of Mobile, Alabama. As of Monday morning, Fausto was moving west-northwest at approximately 13 mph, boasting maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Forecasts indicate that Fausto may strengthen into a hurricane later today, with further intensification expected in the coming days.

While no coastal watches or warnings are active for Fausto at this time, the NHC has warned that swells generated by the storm will likely impact the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula starting Wednesday. These swells pose a risk of life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, adding to the dangers faced by beachgoers in the area.
