In a significant crackdown on fraud, Quebec provincial police dismantled a clandestine laboratory in Montreal earlier this month that was allegedly involved in the production of counterfeit passports, birth certificates, driver’s licences, and other critical documents. This operation, executed on July 8, was a coordinated effort involving the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), as well as police forces from Montreal and Gatineau, in tandem with the Forensic Science and Legal Medicine Laboratory of Quebec.
Extensive Seizures in Operation

It was able to produce a variety of counterfeit documents, including complete passports for several countries such as Canada, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Italy. The operation also churned out driver’s licences for multiple provinces in Canada, including Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, as well as Florida in the United States. Other fraudulent documents included firearms acquisition permits and Quebec health insurance cards.

During the operation, one individual was apprehended and subsequently released on bail. This person now faces a series of charges, including forgery, possession or trafficking of counterfeit documents, and laundering proceeds of crime.
