Following his 2008 conviction for sex offences in Florida, his name was stripped from a lodge on the campus, which has since been demolished after the release of extensive documents by the U.S. Justice Department.
Disturbing Findings
The investigation has gathered a shocking 70 accounts from former students, highlighting “physical conduct of a sexual nature” by 47 faculty and staff members at Interlochen. These allegations, which date back as far as the 1950s and continue into the 2010s, predominantly occurred prior to the year 2000. The report describes a range of abusive behaviours, including grooming, inappropriate touching, and sexual advances, that have left a lasting impact on the victims.
“The information gathered during this investigation is, simply, devastating,” the 97-page report states, underlining the gravity of the claims. Interlochen has reported these allegations to the Grand Traverse County authorities in Michigan to assess potential legal actions, although it is noted that none of the accused are currently employed at the institution, and more than a third have passed away.

In a letter to the community, Interlochen’s president Trey Davey and board chair Barrett Rollins expressed deep regret for the harm inflicted upon members of their community. Two women have specifically alleged inappropriate sexual conduct by Epstein, one of whom reported an incident occurring at the lodge that once bore his name. She described an encounter where Epstein inappropriately brushed against her, a claim supported by details from the investigation. Furthermore, he allegedly facilitated a trip for her to visit him in New York, where she reported feeling uncomfortable during their interactions.
Another woman recounted an encounter where she was asked to remove her clothing while giving Epstein a massage at his home. Despite these incidents, she had no further contact with Epstein or his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
In addition to the ongoing school investigation, federal records reveal that at least two Interlochen alumnae have levelled accusations of grooming and abuse against Epstein and Maxwell, although their identities remain undisclosed. One of these women testified against Maxwell during her 2021 trial for sex trafficking.
