As the provincial election campaign in Quebec draws near, Charles Milliard, the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, has broken his recent silence with a significant policy announcement aimed at reshaping the province’s economic future. Political analyst Karim Boulos noted that Milliard initially gained momentum following his election as Liberal leader in February. “When he was announced, the number spiked. The Liberals looked great. They were in second place and they were outshining the CAQ,” he explained. However, this positive trajectory appears to have waned over recent months, particularly as Premier Christine Fréchette has distanced her administration from the policies of former Premier François Legault.
Boulos emphasised that while the Parti Québécois (PQ) has started to lose traction, it was Fréchette who capitalised on that opportunity, thereby overshadowing Milliard’s potential resurgence.

In conversations with residents in Montreal, many expressed a lack of familiarity with Milliard. Some individuals admitted they could not recognise him, while others acknowledged a desire to know more about his policies as the election approaches. Liberal MNA Désirée McGraw reassured constituents that they will soon see more of Milliard as the campaign heats up. “You can expect to see a lot more of him and more announcements in terms of unveiling our platform at the appropriate time,” she asserted.

Boulos observed that Milliard’s recent economic messaging could resonate with voters seeking more collaboration between Quebec and the rest of Canada. However, he cautioned that to establish himself as a viable contender, Milliard must quickly present a robust platform that addresses pressing issues such as health care, education, infrastructure, investment, and technology.
