As the United States grapples with a significant cyclosporiasis outbreak, recent data suggests that the number of infections linked to the single-celled parasite may be on the decline. With over 18,000 suspected and confirmed cases reported by late July—marking the largest outbreak on record—public health officials are cautiously optimistic yet remain vigilant about potential ongoing risks.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is actively investigating multiple outbreaks of cyclosporiasis that remain without identified sources. Notably, lettuce linked to the outbreak has been distributed across 27 states.

Recent reports from New Hampshire highlight the ongoing risks, as cases of individuals falling ill after consuming Taylor Farms’ lettuce from Mexico were confirmed in mid-July. These incidents occurred outside of the current outbreak designation, underscoring the need for continued monitoring and public health awareness.
