In a harrowing display of escalating violence, a series of Russian missile and drone strikes targeted Ukraine in the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 17 individuals. President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the absence of sufficient air defence interceptors could have mitigated the loss of life, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced military support from Ukraine’s allies.

The assault, one of the deadliest this year, began shortly after midnight and struck residential areas, a railway station, and warehouses in Kyiv and its vicinity.
