During this record-breaking heatwave, social media users have taken to platforms like TikTok to promote a dangerous misinformation campaign, urging individuals to abandon sunscreen use. Posts claim that sunscreen increases cancer risks, with assertions that the product contains harmful chemicals. One viral post stated, “Sunlight increases your body’s production of Vitamin D which fights cancer. Sunscreen is full of chemicals that cause cancer.” Such statements, while attention-grabbing, lack scientific backing.
