Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States, has reached a historic low, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing water crisis plaguing the American West. As of 7 August 2026, water levels at the reservoir dropped to 1,040.4 feet (317.1 metres) above sea level, a depth that has not been seen since the reservoir was filled nearly 90 years ago.
