In a surprising turn of events, legendary musician Neil Young has announced the cancellation of his much-anticipated summer tour across the UK and Europe. The 80-year-old icon, who was set to embark on a series of performances starting in June, shared the news with fans, expressing his regret while emphasising the need for a break at this time.

A Change of Plans

Young, known for his profound impact on the music scene, was scheduled to kick off his tour at the Eden Project in Cornwall, with subsequent shows planned in cities including Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow, and Oxfordshire’s Blenheim Palace. The tour would have continued across the Channel to France and the Netherlands, culminating in a performance in Udine, Italy, by mid-July.

In a heartfelt statement released on his official website on February 6, Young explained, “I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I’m sorry to let you down, but this is not the time. I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts. LOVE Neil be well.”

Fans who purchased tickets can rest assured, as full refunds will be processed for all affected dates.

The Chrome Hearts and Support Acts

This planned tour was particularly notable as it would have featured Young’s newly formed band, the Chrome Hearts, which was established in 2024 following the cancellation of his previous tour with Crazy Horse. The ensemble includes guitarist Micah Nelson, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, bassist Corey McCormick, and organist Spooner Oldham. Notably, Elvis Costello and The Imposters were set to support Young on selected dates, adding to the excitement surrounding the tour.

A Gesture of Solidarity

Young has recently made headlines for his philanthropic efforts as well. In a show of support for the people of Greenland amid geopolitical tensions, he granted them access to his entire digital music archive. This generous act came in response to Donald Trump’s controversial remarks about the territory, which is part of Denmark. Young stated, “I’m honoured to give a free year’s access to neilyoungarchives.com to all our friends in Greenland. I hope my Music and Music Films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government.”

He continued, “This is an offer of peace and love. All the music I made during the last 62 years is yours to hear. We do hope other organisations will follow in the spirit of our example.”

Why it Matters

Neil Young’s cancellation of his upcoming tour serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health and personal well-being, even for icons of his stature. As the music industry gradually rebounds from the pandemic’s effects, artists are still navigating their own challenges. Young’s decision not only reflects his dedication to self-care but also reinforces the idea that, in the fast-paced world of entertainment, taking a step back can sometimes be the most powerful statement of all.
