In a developing case, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has been granted an extension to question a man in connection with the recent murder of 43-year-old Wayne Reid in Coleraine. The victim was pronounced dead on Monday at a residence in Society Court in the town.

The PSNI initially detained the suspect, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, on Monday. A judge has now authorised the police to hold the individual for further interrogation as they continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Reid’s death.

According to a PSNI spokesperson, officers were called to the scene in Society Court shortly after 6:00 pm on Monday, where they discovered the victim with fatal injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Reid was pronounced dead at the property.

“Our inquiries into this tragic incident are ongoing, and we are working to establish the full facts and circumstances,” the spokesperson stated. “We have now been granted additional time to question the suspect, and we would appeal to anyone with information to come forward and assist with our investigation.”

The PSNI has not yet revealed the cause of Reid’s death or provided details on the nature of the suspect’s involvement. Locals in the Coleraine area have expressed shock and sadness over the incident, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice.

“Wayne was a well-known and respected member of the community,” said one neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous. “This is a devastating loss, and we hope the police can quickly get to the bottom of what happened and ensure the person responsible is held accountable.”

The extended detention of the suspect suggests that investigators believe they may have a breakthrough in the case. However, the PSNI has stressed that the inquiry is still in its early stages, and they are keeping an open mind as they continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.

As the community mourns Reid’s passing, the focus now turns to the police’s efforts to uncover the truth and provide closure for his family and friends. The PSNI has assured the public that they are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice.
