In a touching homage to love and companionship, New York-based photographer Adela Ramirez has immortalised a snow-covered scene from her apartment window, where dog owners braved a fierce winter storm to walk their pets. This poignant moment, witnessed through the lens of her iPhone 16, not only encapsulates the beauty of our four-legged friends but also evokes a deep sense of nostalgia and connection to the past.
A Winter Wonderland in the City
From her art studio in Manhattan, Ramirez has become accustomed to the dramatic skyline that surrounds her. “My view consists of the Empire State Building, which is art deco, the B Altman Building, which is Italian Renaissance revival, and the beautiful Church of the Incarnation, which is neo-Gothic,” she explains. Originally hailing from Texas, Ramirez has called New York home for four decades, and she feels a profound sense of privilege when nature offers up a spectacle like a heavy snowfall. “I always feel privileged when the universe seems to say, ‘Today I am going to present you with a fabulous snowstorm – enjoy the performance!’”
On this particular day, the bustling streets of the city were eerily silent, with only the brave dog walkers venturing out into the white abyss. Ramirez recalls, “There were no cars or pedestrians; only dog walkers were braving the storm.” She watched as individuals played with their dogs, carrying them over icy patches to ensure their furry friends received their daily dose of exercise.
Remembering Teddy: A Personal Reflection
Ramirez’s heart ached for her beloved puggle, Teddy, who passed away the previous spring. “He was half beagle, half pug, with an underbite and a princess attitude. He loved the snow and had a winter coat and boots, but made it clear that he couldn’t be expected to walk in it,” she reminisces. “He would lift his paws and look me straight in the eye, as if to say, ‘Mom, please carry me.’ We had to say goodbye to him last spring. He’d been my loyal boy for 10 years.”

The sight of dog owners navigating the snowstorm brought back cherished memories of her time with Teddy, stirring a bittersweet longing within her. “From my window, I have witnessed the highs and lows of humanity,” she reflects. “But on this day, I was just so touched by the way people care for their beloved dogs.”
The Art of Photography as a Reflection of Life
Through her photography, Ramirez captures more than just moments; she encapsulates emotions and stories that resonate deeply with viewers. Each image serves as a reminder of the beauty found in everyday life, even amidst adversity. The rawness of the snowstorm contrasted against the tender interactions between humans and their dogs speaks volumes about resilience and love in difficult times.
As she continues to document the world around her, Ramirez’s work stands as a testament to the unbreakable bonds we share with our pets. Each photograph invites us to pause and reflect on what truly matters—the connections we forge, the memories we create, and the love that sustains us.
Why it Matters
In an era where technology often distracts us from genuine human experiences, Ramirez’s poignant photographs remind us of the warmth and affection that exists in our lives. They draw attention to the simple yet profound ways we express love and care, especially for those who depend on us, such as our pets. In capturing moments that resonate with so many, she not only preserves memories but also encourages a deeper appreciation for the bonds that enrich our lives, urging us to cherish every fleeting moment.
