The documents identify Master Corporal Marc-Aurèle Chabot as the purported leader of this militia cell. According to the allegations, Chabot believed that society was nearing collapse and had devised a plan to forcibly take control of cabins in Quebec’s cottage country. He is said to have conducted reconnaissance on local infrastructure while also seeking information on bomb-making techniques, indicating a serious intent to execute these plans. Furthermore, the affidavit claims he was willing to sacrifice his life to realise this violent takeover.
Surveillance by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has been ongoing since 2023. The group was arrested last July, at which point authorities seized a substantial stockpile of weapons. The alleged motivations behind their actions appear to stem from an accelerationist ideology, which advocates for hastening societal conflict to provoke radical change, a notion that often intersects with extremist objectives.
