A troubling incident occurred during a recent Ardal North West League football match between Trearddur Bay and Porthmadog in North Wales. According to reports, a 35-year-old man has been released on conditional bail following an alleged assault that took place on the pitch.

Footage of the incident, which occurred at the Y Traeth (The Beach) stadium in Gwynedd, has been widely circulated on social media. The video appears to show a player striking an opponent in the face. North Wales Police have confirmed they are investigating the matter and have appealed for witnesses, including the individual who filmed the video, to come forward and provide statements.

“We are appealing for the individual who filmed the video to come forward so that an evidential statement can be obtained and formally included within the case file submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service,” said District Inspector Iwan Jones.

The police have emphasised the importance of maintaining the integrity of the investigation, stating that sharing certain information or speculating about guilt or innocence could have legal consequences, including being held in contempt of court.

In response to the incident, Trearddur Bay Football Club has apologised and announced the release of player Tom Taylor following an emergency general meeting of the club’s committee on Sunday. The club has pledged to cooperate fully with any external investigations or disciplinary processes, but has refrained from making further comments while the matter is ongoing.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has also launched its own investigation into the incident. Porthmadog FC has confirmed that one of their players, Danny Brookwell, was concussed during the altercation and is currently recovering at home.

This incident has undoubtedly cast a shadow over the local amateur football community, raising concerns about player safety and the need for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. As the investigations continue, the public and the football community await the outcome and any potential consequences for those involved.
