In a concerning development, German authorities have arrested a Lebanese national on suspicion of being a member of the Palestinian militant group Hamas and planning attacks in Europe. The man, identified as “Mohammad S”, was apprehended at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport on Friday evening after arriving from Beirut.
According to federal prosecutors, in August 2025, Mohammad S. was involved in procuring 300 rounds of ammunition and was part of an alleged plot to target Jewish and Israeli institutions. He is now set to appear before a federal judge, who will decide on the matter of pre-trial detention.
Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip but has been severely weakened by Israeli operations in the territory, is considered a terrorist organisation by the US, UK, Israel and numerous other countries. The militant group carried out attacks on Israel in October 2023, resulting in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the taking of more than 250 hostages.
Since then, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has reported that over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military action.
German authorities have stated that Mohammad S. colluded with “Abed Al G”, one of three alleged Hamas members arrested last October over planned attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions. The three were reportedly arrested while meeting for a weapons handover in Berlin. Two of them are German nationals, while the other is from Lebanon.
At the time of these arrests, police searches were also conducted in the German cities of Leipzig and Oberhausen, as reported by Der Spiegel.
Separately, in November, German authorities arrested another suspected member of Hamas – also a Lebanese national – near the border with the Czech Republic.
The arrest of Mohammad S. highlights the ongoing efforts by German security forces to disrupt and prevent any potential terrorist activities within the country. As the investigation continues, the public can be assured that the authorities are taking the necessary steps to maintain public safety and security.
