In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the shooting death of Kashif Jamal Bentley-Jean, the man identified as Canada’s most wanted fugitive has been apprehended. Twenty-three-year-old Bryan Fuentes Gramajo was arrested on Thursday by the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal, marking a crucial step in addressing the violence that has plagued urban areas across the country.

Connection to a Notorious Gang

Fuentes Gramajo is believed to be affiliated with the Zone 43 gang, which has its roots in Montreal and extends its influence into Ontario and British Columbia. Authorities allege that he played a pivotal role in the tragic events that unfolded at Yorkdale mall on July 15, resulting in the fatal shooting of Bentley-Jean, who was Toronto’s 21st homicide victim of 2025.

Toronto police Chief-Superintendent Joe Matthews had previously highlighted the severity of Fuentes Gramajo’s alleged criminal activities when he was placed on the 2025 “be on the lookout” (Bolo) list. “You don’t make it to number one … for stealing a car,” he remarked in October. “You’re at the top of this list because we believe you pose a serious threat to any person in any place where you may be. Bryan Fuentes Gramajo fits that bill.”

The Events Leading to the Arrest

The incident that claimed Bentley-Jean’s life occurred early in the morning, with police receiving reports of gunfire at approximately 6:13 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Bentley-Jean in the parking lot of the mall suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Fuentes Gramajo was one of three individuals sought in connection with this violent crime.

In the months since the shooting, law enforcement has made strides in their investigation. Another suspect, 20-year-old Bradley Lucate Nicolas of Montreal, was apprehended last August and also faces first-degree murder charges. However, 28-year-old Jimmy Prudent, another suspect linked to the case, remains at large and is still wanted for his alleged involvement.

Public Appeal for Information

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about Prudent’s whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding Bentley-Jean’s death to come forward. The police have emphasized the importance of community cooperation in tackling the violent crime that has become increasingly prevalent in urban centres.

Why it Matters

The arrest of Bryan Fuentes Gramajo is emblematic of the ongoing struggle against gang-related violence in Canada, particularly in urban areas like Toronto and Montreal. This case highlights not only the tragic loss of life but also the broader societal issues of gang influence and public safety. As communities grapple with these challenges, the collaboration between law enforcement and the public becomes crucial in fostering a safer environment for all citizens. The arrest serves as a reminder of the persistent threat posed by organized crime and the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to combat such violence.
