In a testament to the thriving British music scene, singer-songwriters Olivia Dean and Lola Young have each received five nominations for the prestigious 2026 BRIT Awards. The annual celebration of the UK’s musical talent is set to take place for the first time in Manchester’s Co-op Live arena on 28th February, with the ceremony broadcast live on ITV.

Dean, 26, is in the running for coveted prizes such as Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her critically acclaimed sophomore effort “The Art of Loving”. Her chart-topping single “Man I Need” and a guest feature on Sam Fender’s “Rein Me In” have also earned her nods in the Song of the Year category. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Young has been recognised across diverse genres, including Alternative/Rock and Pop, for her emotionally raw and musically versatile 2025 album “I’m Only F**king Myself”.

The impressive showing by Dean and Young reflects the growing prominence of female and non-binary artists in the British music industry. This year, 70% of the nominees are either women, non-binary, or mixed-gender groups, a marked improvement from the male-dominated line-ups of recent years.

Other notable nominees include the returning Lily Allen, who earned three nods including Artist and Album of the Year for her deeply personal “West End Girl”. Rap stars Dave and Jim Legxacy have also received multiple nominations, while the international categories feature a diverse array of acts, from established superstars like Taylor Swift to rising talents such as Geese and Sombr.

The awards ceremony will also see the return of Jarvis Cocker, whose band Pulp are nominated for Group of the Year, 30 years after his infamous stage invasion during Michael Jackson’s performance at the 1996 BRITs. As the music industry eagerly awaits the results, the 2026 edition promises to be a celebration of the UK’s vibrant and diverse musical landscape.
