A major dual-carriageway in Lincolnshire has been closed following a collision, causing significant disruption for commuters in the region. The A1 northbound has been shut between Barrowby, near Grantham, and Balderton, several miles north, as emergency services respond to the incident.
The road closure, which is in place in both directions, is part of a key commuter route for those travelling to Lincoln, around 30 miles away, and Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire. Drivers are being diverted onto the A46 and A52, adding substantial time to their journeys this morning.
According to National Highways East Midlands, the closure is likely to remain in place throughout the morning rush hour as collision investigation work is carried out by Lincolnshire Police. Motorists have been advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, or consider alternative routes where possible.
A northbound diversion is in place, directing drivers to leave the A1 at Barrowby, turn left onto the A52 westbound, and then join the A46 northbound at Saxondale before rejoining the A1 at Newark-on-Trent. Southbound traffic is being advised to follow a similar route in reverse.
The disruption is expected to have a significant impact on commuters, with the diversions adding considerable time to journeys. Drivers have been urged to check for updates and plan their routes accordingly to avoid lengthy delays.
