Corbyn and Sultana agree to launch new left-wing party

Jeremy Corbyn and Labour MP Zarah Sultana have agreed to launch a new left‑wing party after leaving Labour, saying the current political system is “rigged” and vowing to redistribute wealth and power more fairly.

The pair are operating under the working title “Your Party” and have invited supporters to sign up to an interim website. In a joint statement they said their new movement would belong to ordinary people and reflect the voices of trade unionists, activists and communities who feel ignored by mainstream politics.

Supporters expect the party to campaign for public ownership, higher taxes on the wealthy and grassroots democracy. Critics warn it could split the progressive vote, but backers argue that existing parties have failed to challenge inequality. For more details, readers can see the Guardian’s UK politics coverage and the BBC’s analysis of this development.
