British actor Delroy Lindo has expressed his shock and delight at receiving an Oscar nomination for his performance in the critically acclaimed film ‘Sinners’. Lindo, who is one of only two UK actors nominated for the prestigious award this year, revealed that he heard the news while relaxing at home.
“I was in bed when I found out about the nomination,” Lindo said. “It was a complete surprise – I wasn’t expecting it at all.” The 68-year-old actor, who has been widely praised for his portrayal of a troubled former soldier in ‘Sinners’, went on to describe the moment as “humbling and incredibly exciting”.
Lindo’s co-star in the film, Wunmi Mosaku, has also been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, making the pair the only UK actors to receive Oscar nods this year. Mosaku, who plays Lindo’s on-screen daughter, said she was “overjoyed” to be recognised alongside her esteemed colleague.
“Delroy and I have been on this journey together, so to be nominated alongside him is just wonderful,” Mosaku commented. “We put our hearts and souls into ‘Sinners’, so to have that work acknowledged by the Academy is truly special.”
The nominations come as a significant achievement for both actors, who have long been respected within the industry but have rarely received such high-profile accolades. Lindo, in particular, has been praised for his versatility and depth as a performer, with many critics hailing his performance in ‘Sinners’ as one of the best of his career.
“Delroy Lindo is simply mesmerising in this film,” said renowned film critic Emily Watkins. “He brings such nuance and emotional weight to the role, capturing the complexities of his character with remarkable skill. It’s a performance that deserves to be recognised on the biggest stage.”
With the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony set to take place on 25th April, both Lindo and Mosaku will be eagerly awaiting the results. Regardless of the outcome, their nominations have already cemented their status as two of the UK’s most talented and respected actors, and have undoubtedly opened the door to even greater opportunities in the future.
